PAUL DOWDING (Chair) Paul has 3 sons (mid-teens - early twenties) and lives in Somerset with his partner of 25 years. Paul brings 25 years of business experience, for the past 12 years running his own successful Leadership and Management Development business. Before this Paul worked for one of the UK’s largest direct marketing agencies for 7 years as Client Services Director.

Paul founded Alive and Well in December 2008. Along with a clear vision of the shape, structure and life saving work of the charity, Paul brings entrepreneurial drive and energy with which to steer it. Paul is committed to direct action to relieve suffering.

KIM FINDLAY (Trustee - Marketing) I am married to Sarah & have two children Holly 11 and Fred 9 we live in Wiltshire. I’ve had a varied career initially as a journalist and commercial film producer and more recently managing Director of my own interiors company as well as acting as a consultant to other office furniture companies.

I have extensive business & project management skills and bring an enthusiasm for getting stuck in and making things happen. I have helped run a local charity for the last 7 years, served as a Parish Councilor and am currently a Governor of my local primary school. In 2008 I raised £5,000 for various charities by spending two weeks in India on an old Enfield motorbike. I even managed not to fall off much.I am excited about joining Paul at Alive & Well I can’t think of a more positive way of making a real difference to the lives of people who really struggle to survive.

WILL HANCOCK (Trustee) Will lives in Somerset with wife of 25 years- Cathy, they have three children ranging in age from 9 to 17 years. Will is Head of Operations for a major global industrial machinery auction company. He has 25 years experience in the auction business, with considerable experience of conducting the business of buying, selling and transporting machinery and equipment throughout many diverse areas of the world.

Will is keen to make a difference for people in need. He believes that the goals of Alive & Well are both attainable and life changing for the recipients as well as those working on the project.

Dr HAL MACFIE (Trustee) Dr. Hal MacFie is a statistician by training, with research interests areas of product assessment and consumer research. Author of over 100 scientific publications and four books, he was Head of Consumer Science at the Institute of Food Research, Reading England, before becoming Director of the Institute. Dr. MacFie is now an independent consultant, Visiting Professor at Reading and Nottingham Universities and European Editor of the peer reviewed journal Food Quality and Preference.

Together with Richard Whittle, another trustee, Hal runs Frenchay Forestry, a partnership of 30 years, growing, importing and selling some 40,000 xmas trees per year. Hal has also been Treasurer of the UK Chemometrics and International Sensometrics Societies.

JON SUGDEN (Trustee + Treasurer) Jonathan Sugden is the founder and now Managing Director of one of Worcestershire’s largest and most successful independent property management companies, established some 20 years ago. Over the last 15 years he has travelled extensively across Europe, parts of Africa and the sub continent of India by motorcycle and has witnessed much poverty and need in some of those areas. He is now committed to making a difference, to physically helping some of those who do not have the basic essentials of life and who are not able to help themselves. Jon has been with his wife Cindy, a Doctor of Biostatistics at the University of Birmingham for 24 years

RICHARD NAPPER (Trustee + WTN Liaison) Richard lives in Somerset with his partner of 13 years, and two sons. Richard is the Sierra Leone Country Director for international charity, Wherever the Need (www.wherevertheneed.org.uk), specialising in the provision of eco-sanitation, water and livelihoods to rural communities in Sierra Leone, Kenya and India. Richard and Wherever the Need will be providing invaluable advice and support to Alive & Well, with direct experience of successfully managing and monitoring WatSan projects in southeastern Sierra Leone and other parts of the globe over the past four years.

BARNABY ELPHICK (Trustee) Barnaby lives outside of Bath with his family. Educated to post graduate level, Barnaby started off as a teacher and has spent the majority of his career in the learning and skills sector, working at senior management level for both regional and national organisations. He currently runs his own business providing consultancy services in the public sector.

Barnaby has worked successfully in a voluntary capacity for a number of charities and is committed to taking the work of Alive and Well forward to make a significant positive difference to people’s lives.

Richard Napper

RICHARD WHITTLE (Trustee) Richard has travelled extensively throughout his life and has worked in a range of countries; contract farming in Australia and construction in the U.S. and Spain.

Acquired a teaching degree and teaching in Bristol, Richard then took on, renovated and worked a smallholding in Wales where his two children were brought up. In partnership with Hal (a fellow trustee) Richard runs a Christmas tree wholesale and retail business sourcing trees from Europe and the U.K.  For the past ten years Richard has been growing trees and managing his own woodland on the Mendip Hills.

His commitment to Alive and Well stems from a love and admiration for the many who helped him on his travels in Africa. Richard brings huge practical and logistical experience to Alive & Well.

Richard Whittle

RICH BIELBY (Trustee) Rich has life long experience in mechanical engineering and has a wealth of experience in on-the-road maintenance of all types of vehicles. Rich’s career in electrical engineering includes rigging and maintaining power supplies to some of the largest music festivals in the South West.

He runs his own business working all over the UK. Richard lives in Somerset with his partner and children.

MARTIN HARRISSON (Trustee) Martin or ‘Harry’ Harrisson is married to Liz and lives in Somerset with his family. He has three children; Rachel, Natalie and Robert. Harry is a countryman who is passionate about the countryside, about fishing and country sports.

Harry has a teaching degree and has worked as a training events coordinator running development events for the likes of Orange, Homeserve and many others. Early on in his career Harry set up and ran a successful groundworks business in the South East
